December 2025

Dear CMS Families,

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Break and are feeling refreshed and ready for the final three weeks before Winter Break. December is a joyful and busy month at CMS, and we’re excited to share a few important updates and reminders to help your family stay connected.

Spirit Week – December 15-19

To end the semester with fun and school pride, we are excited to host a Winter Spirit Week during the last week before break!

Here’s what students can look forward to:

12/15 - Monday: Pajama Day

Cozy, warm pajamas!

12/16 - Tuesday: Twin Day

Dress alike with a friend, sibling, or teacher!

12/17 - Wednesday: Winter Wonderland Day

Wear your favorite winter colors — blues, whites, and silvers.

12/18 - Thursday: Fuzzy Socks & Sweaters Day

Show off cozy winter socks and sweaters.

12/19 - Friday: “Dress as a Present” Day

Students wear bows, big ribbons, or gift tags

We can’t wait to see our students express their creativity and school spirit!

The Importance of Attendance – Thank You, Families!

We want to extend our deep appreciation to all CMS families for working so closely with us to support strong school attendance. Your partnership truly makes a difference, and we are grateful for your consistent efforts to help your child be present and on time each day.

While we are making progress toward our goal of 95% daily attendance, we did experience a dip the week before Thanksgiving. During that week, our attendance dropped to 89% present, and our percentage of students considered chronically absent rose to 35%. We share this not to discourage, but to highlight how important it is that we continue building and maintaining strong routines as we move into December.

A reminder that a student is considered chronically absent when they miss more than 10 consecutive days of school, regardless of the reason. Every day matters. When students attend consistently, they strengthen academic skills, maintain relationships with peers and teachers, and stay connected to important classroom learning.

Let’s continue the strong habits we’ve built so far. Thank you for your ongoing support and for helping us ensure every student has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive at CMS.

Staying Warm This Season

As temperatures continue to drop, please make sure your child arrives at school with a warm coat or jacket. Students may wear long-sleeved shirts under their CMS uniform to stay comfortable throughout the day.

If your child needs winter clothing, we encourage you to visit our school office. We are more than happy to assist with jackets and other warm gear.

Our Community Hub at 1850 South Irving Street, Denver, CO 80219, also offers a larger selection of clothing and additional family supports. We are deeply grateful for this partnership and the many resources they provide to our CMS families.

With appreciation,

Dr. Esmeralda Orrin, Assistant Principal
